The Story Behind Utah’s First Nikkei Sushi Experience
Misti Maki was created to introduce Utah to Nikkei cuisine — a vibrant fusion born from the Japanese communities who settled in Peru over a century ago. The name reflects that heritage: Misti, the famous volcano in southern Peru, represents passion, origin, and heat; Maki, the Japanese word for sushi roll, stands for precision, patience, and artistry. Together, they embody a philosophy where flavor meets story — where every roll celebrates two cultures united by creativity.
When we opened our doors in Pleasant Grove, we wanted to do more than serve sushi. We wanted to share an experience — a way of eating that connects people through color, texture, and discovery. Each plate is crafted to surprise, to delight, and to make you feel something new. Whether it’s your first taste of Nikkei or your hundredth, Misti Maki invites you to slow down, savor, and experience the fusion that’s changing the way Utah thinks about sushi.
